MultiPV exposes alternatives, useful when one move is best but another is more practical.

FAQ on Chess Analysis Board

Inputs, evaluation perspective and local engine limits.

Is this chess analysis board free?
Yes. The board and local Stockfish analysis are free and need no account.
Can I paste a FEN into the analysis board?
Yes. Choose FEN, paste all six fields and load the position. The tool validates the board before analysis.
Can I paste a PGN game?
Yes. The main line is replayed and the final position is placed on the board. Variations are ignored so the tool stays focused on one line.
What does MultiPV mean?
MultiPV asks Stockfish to show more than one candidate line. One line is fastest; three lines are better for comparing alternatives.
Whose point of view is the evaluation from?
The score is shown for the side to move in the loaded position.
Does a higher depth always give a better answer?
More depth usually improves tactical reliability, but it also takes longer. Start at depth 14 for a quick browser check, then raise it when the position needs more work.
Does my position get uploaded?
No. FEN parsing, PGN parsing and Stockfish all run in your browser.
Can I use the board on mobile?
Yes. The board uses the full available width and the engine inspector follows below it.
