FAQ on PGN Filter

Supported filters, privacy and what the export preserves.

What can I filter in a PGN file?
You can filter by player, player color, result, rating range, date, event or site, and ECO or opening text.
Does my PGN get uploaded?
No. The tool reads, filters and exports the PGN locally in your browser.
Can I filter several games at once?
Yes. Paste or load a multi-game PGN file and all detected games are indexed together.
How does player color work?
Enter a player name first, then choose White or Black to keep only games where that player had the selected color.
Can I search by opening name instead of ECO?
Yes. The ECO field also checks the PGN Opening header when it is present.
Will comments and variations be preserved?
Yes. Matching games are exported from their original PGN text, including comments and variations.
Why are some ratings missing?
A PGN can omit WhiteElo or BlackElo tags. Such games stay visible until you apply a rating range; then only games with a matching known rating are kept.
Can I send one filtered game to the analysis board?
The tool exports the matched set. Paste one exported game into the analysis board to load its final mainline position.
